Olympic Kiln - GF15E

Model - GF15E 240 or 208 volt, inside dimensions: 60" wide x 36" front-to-back  x 12" deep, fires to 1700°F

Olympic Kilns builds affordable powerful volume producing glass kilns.  Users are provided with equipment that handles capacity loads and large pieces with ease.  The Production Glass Fusing kilns have many outstanding features and can be designed as top loading, clamshell loading, or both top and clamshell loading; and as a Bell design with the firing chamber electronically raised and  lowered and a removable floor for convenient loading and unloading.

The frames of the Production glass fusing kilns are built of heavy angle iron and metal tubing.  Kiln walls are 4 ½” insulating brick with 1” ceramic fiberboard and 1” air space created by the tube frame.  The result is an energy efficient heavy load production kiln with a cooler outside surface and temperature.  These models are built with double insulated floors consisting of brick and ceramic fiberboard.  The kilns walls and floor are constructed of kiln brick and board insulation.  Kiln brick, ceramic board and pyro-block modules comprise the easy opening counter sprung lid.

Floor elements, when selected as an option, are controlled by infinite switches which can be adjusted by the kiln operator as needed.  Glass fusing production kilns are equipped with heavy gauge elements and industrial relays for long life.  Production volume glass kiln models have a hinged electrical box for easy access and their own breaker box for easy access, safety and lockout.

Production glass kiln models come equipped with pilot light, heavy angle iron frame, stainless steel jacket, breaker box, Bartlett RTC-1000 digital electronic controller, instruction manuals, and warranty card.  One-year Limited Kiln Warranty.  Options are available including upgrading to the Genesis touchscreen controller, lid elements in quartz rods, Type S thermocouple, 2 or 3 zone control, 480 volt, vents, and much more.  Furniture Kits are available and provide 1 layer of shelving with smooth ceramic fiberboard, ceramic paper and large square posts.  Some options must be quoted because of variations in models.

Solid State Relay

A Solid State Relay is hands down the best investment you can make in your kiln!

The relay is what controls the power cycling of the elements in the kiln and they need to be able to withstand a ton of power as they do so. The solid state relays are incredibly efficient compared to the standard mechanical relays and are able to operate at much faster speeds. What this equates to is incredibly tight temperature control for accurate firings, longer element life, and savings on your electrical bill!

The standard mechanical relays have moving parts which cause wear and tear over the years and will eventually need to be replaced; however with a solid state relay it's likely to last the entire life of the kiln! You willsave money and time by never needing to worry about this in the future!

Controller Selection

Olympic has close relationships with the manufacturers of a variety of digital controllers. This means you will have nothing but the best the best in terms of performance and accuracy in your firings.

This is a great choice for a controller if you want the features of a smart controller, but want the ease of straightforward programming and use.

KilnStar by Barlett Instruments

With an intuitive keypad and versatile features, the Bartlett KilnStar Controller allows operators to create up to 6 custom firing programs, each with up to 8 segments, or combine them for 16-segment programs for more complex firings!

Barlett KilnStar Controller

Need to adjust on-the-go? The KilnStar makes it easy to add time, skip segments, or adjust the final temperature mid-firing. Preheat is a breeze too, with the option to hold the kiln at 200°F for drying ware before moving into the firing cycle.

Cone Fire mode simplifies ceramic firings, while Vary-Fire offers full control over firing profiles, perfect for glass and jewelry. Whether you're firing ceramics, glass, or custom projects, the KilnStar is a flexible and powerful tool for any kiln operator.

Power Interrupt Switch / Automatic Lid Shutoff

The power interrupt switch is a useful safety feature which removes power from the heating elements of your kiln once it is opened, and reapplies the power once the lid has been closed.Power Interrupt Safety Switch

If you believe you'd ever like to open the kiln during firing, the power interrupt switch is a highly recommended addition to your new purchase.

Multi-Zone Thermocouples

The zone control gives the controller the ability to regulate the rates of rising temperature to be even between the different zones. Meaning if the top of the kiln is lagging behind the controller will alter the rate of the bottom two zones to keep things even. When the zone control is turned on in the controller it also allows the operator to see what the temperature is, during the firing, on each of the zones.

All of this improves the evenness of the kiln temperature! We find that it is beneficial when firing a very tightly loaded kiln with lots of shelves stacked close together as a lot of potters do. It is also beneficial to those that fire sculptures that use the entire height of the kiln to ensure a nice even firing.

Furniture Kit

Furniture Kits are necessary accessories for any kiln owner as firing directly on the kiln floor is not only bad for the kiln, but your pieces as well. In addition to this, they're also useful! A furniture kit will allow you to stack multiple shelves on top of one another in order to maximize the useable space when firing smaller pieces.

If you have one that will fit this kiln size already, then you're in luck! But if not, you'll want to ensure you add this to your order as well.

Furniture Kit includes:

  • 2x 36" x 48" square shelf
  • 20x 2" small square posts
  • 1x 20 sq. ft. ceramic paper

Shelf can be cut to fit and extra pieces shipped with kit. Please specify when ordering.

Kiln furniture can be special ordered separately, but if done so the cost is ~10-20% higher and will incur a separate shipping charge. It's best to include this on your initial order of the kiln.

* Received shelves may contain surface imperfections such as scratches, discoloration or rough edge. These possible imperfections are understood and accepted by the buyer.
